In-app search analytics is a different sport from Google-watching

The open web has infinite documents and a monopoly query box. Your app has a finite catalogue, a keyboard that fights Thai script, and users who often know the SKU already. Analytics that copy web-search KPIs will flatter you and mislead you.

What we mean by in-app search analytics

At Agent Flowcore, in-app search analytics is the practice of measuring how people query inside a product, what the system returned, whether the empty state was honest, and whether the session ended because the job was done or because patience ran out. It is not “install a heatmap on the search bar.”

A complete picture usually needs four layers: the query string (and its language), the result set (size, ranks, card design), the interaction (impressions, clicks, add-to-cart or equivalent), and the session outcome (reformulations, exits, later conversion that might have nothing to do with search).

If you cannot replay a single query from event to outcome, you do not have search analytics. You have a chart named Search.
The stack we teach

Four layers, in the order we insist on

01

Instrumentation that agrees with itself

Search submitted, results rendered, result impressed, result clicked, downstream action. Session identifiers that survive a backgrounded mobile app. Without this contract, ranking debates are theatre. Our Query Intelligence Lab spends the first fortnight here on purpose.

02

Query taxonomy, including Thai messiness

Navigational, exploratory, comparative, known-item, complaint-shaped. Mixed EN/TH tokens. Transliteration. Missing spaces. A taxonomy is a living list, not a slide. See also our essay on Thai tokenisation pitfalls.

03

Empty states as product evidence

Zero-result and low-result queries are often the most valuable slice in the log. They name missing inventory, missing synonyms, and missing language coverage. We wrote a longer note: When the empty state is the product.

04

Ranking with presentation bias admitted

Position one collects clicks. Card size, image, and badge collect more. A ranking “win” can be a layout change. Read The click gap between rank 1 and rank 3 before you ship another feature weight.

What we deliberately leave out

Cluster operations, shard counts, and vendor bake-offs. Those are real jobs; they are not this studio. We also do not teach you to scrape competitor SERPs. In-app search is your catalogue talking to your users. The competitive question is usually merchandising, not PageRank cosplay.

Where to go next

If this framing matches the problem on your desk, start with programs or write via contact. If you only need language coverage, the Thai workshop is enough. If three teams disagree on a success rate, take the Lab.
